Art was the Founding Father of Davis Tree Farm.
He had the vision of a nursery to service the landscape companies in the area. He help Mike Davis teaching him
about the different kind of plants, how to plant them, how to take care of them, about disease and insects. He also
introduced Mike to owners of of other nurseries out east, and started taking Mike to the different nursery shows getting
him involved in the business. Art was always willing to share his knowledge, and to help anyone that asked.
Art E. Riedel, 82, of Medina, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2007, at
Hospice at the Inn at Medina. He was born Sept. 14, 1924, in Lakewood. Following World War II, he was chosen to
study landscape architecture and design in England. When he returned to the States, he started his own landscaping business,
"Art Works and Associates." He was well-known for his gift of landscape design, serving residential and commercial
developments. Mr. Riedel was involved in the landscaping design for the Midway Mall Shopping Center in 1967, for which
he received the American Association of Nurserymen Certificate of Merit Award, Bay Village High School, mall interior
at Parmatown and the gazebo on Medina square. He was active with the Friends of the Cemetery at Spring Grove Cemetery.
He also was active at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, where he wrote a column, "Growing in the Church Grounds."
His love and dedication for his work continued through his illness until his passing.
